A bit more progress to report:

1. submitted my visa paperwork. This time I called ahead of time to make sure they were accepting visa applications today.
2. purchased a one-way ticket to Budapest leaving LAX on August 13th and arriving in Budapest on August 14th. The flight has two intermediate stops in Chicago and Warsaw.
   

Meanwhile, I've received a couple of e-mails from the head of the English department at Ujpesti High School encouraging me to be as creative as I like. My students will be primarily 14 - 15 year old boys with perhaps 5 girls thrown in for good measure. Before school begins, the students will be tested on their English abilities and placed into Beginners, Intermediate, or Advanced classes.

The current American English teacher also sent me an e-mail welcoming me to the school and promising to follow up with another e-mail giving me hints on what to expect from the school, life in Hungary, and learning the Hungarian language. She and her husband currently trade teaching English to their instructor's son for learning Hungarian from her. This may be something I also wish to do; we'll see.
