May 15, 2011: Memento Park (aka Statue Park)

May 15, 2011: Hungary's history is very much tied with the Soviets. During the Soviet occupation, many of the monuments in Budapest glorified the Soviets portraying them as saviors of Hungary from the Nazi occupation and afterward showing Hungary as a satellite state of the Soviet Union. With Hungary's freedom from the Soviet Union in 1989, these Soviet statues were removed from Hungarian national monuments, but rather than destroy them, Hungary has moved them to a park of its own in the outskirts of Budapest (District 22). This park is called Memento Park (aka Statue Park). Here are pictures I took of some of the statues:

Here's a picture of a Trabant car, the kind of car produced between 1958 and 1990 (That's what the sign in the museum said!) These cars were made of recycled materials and there was a wait time of six to eight years to get one after someone orders it.
