June 19, 2011: London Day 2 - Windsor Castle

June 19, 2011: After breakfast, we drove to Windsor Castle and took an audio tour. The tour took us into many rooms of the castle. Before going on a tour, we decided to have lunch in one of the many restaurants at the base of the castle.

The following pictures are of the outside premises of the castle since pictures inside were not allowed to be taken inside.

As we entered the grounds, we heard a band playing marches and other music. Strangely enough, most of the music was American music, but it was entertaining none the less.

The tour inside the rooms was very interesting. I particularly enjoyed Margaret's doll house which had miniatures of all sorts of things in perfect scale. For example, there was even a vacuum cleaner in the maid's quarters. The doll house was enormous. There was also an exhibit about Phillip since he just turned 90. Many sets of porcelain were also on display and some of them were one of a kind. One set took so much time to make, it was late by many years and eventually put the porcelain maker out of business, but incredible porcelain it was.


Also on exhibit were many treasures that were seized during the days of the British Empire (e.g., artifacts from India, the Far East, etc.)


I was very pleased to have seen Windsor Castle. I never would have thought to take a tour of it, but Bernie and Julie wanted to go on it too since they had never been inside the castle before that. Another great day.
